Neal Kumar is a partner in the Corporate & Financial Services Department. Mr. Kumar represents financial institutions, trading companies, end-users, trade associations, exchanges, clearing organizations, and hedge and private equity funds, in a variety of regulatory, enforcement, and transactional matters involving commodities, digital assets, and derivatives. Chambers USA (2020) recognized Mr. Kumar in the area of Capital Markets: Derivatives (National). In addition, the Futures Industry Association awarded Mr. Kumar the Rising Star Award as a person well-positioned to be a future leader in the industry.
Mr. Kumar advises clients on the application of regulations promulgated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the National Futures Association (NFA). He has extensive experience helping swap dealer, futures commission merchant, designated contract market, swap execution facility, derivatives clearing organization, and other clients engaged in commodity and derivatives trading comply with all aspects of CFTC and NFA regulation. He also advises clients on the CFTC and NFA regulation of FinTech and digital assets. Mr. Kumar regularly represents clients in government investigations by the CFTC, NFA, and the exchanges. He is also a frequent speaker at derivatives industry conferences regarding regulatory and enforcement related issues. In addition, Mr. Kumar is a member of the Executive Committee of the FIA Law & Compliance Committee, an active member of the D.C. Bar committee on Derivatives, Securitization & Project Finance, and an advocate for greater diversity in the financial services industry.
